Session Description

Young people tend to be early adopters and drivers of change, and this is immensely valuable as societies adapt to new digital frontiers. Parents, educators, policymakers and other stakeholders appreciate the need to protect children online. However, protection is not children’s only right in the digital environment. Mobile technology offers young people many new ways to learn, engage and communicate. These opportunities are reflected United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) General Comment 25 which states, “that all children have equal and effective access to the digital environment in ways that are meaningful for them.” But are we considering the protection as well as the participation of young people when developing policies for the digital future?
