Our editors regularly post on social media, we host Live webinars and podcasts with our industry partners. Expert Panellists from IoT Now contribute to the monthly Trending Tech Podcast, analysing business opportunities and overcoming technical challenges in a uniquely entertaining, provocative and amusing format.

At its simplest, the Internet of Things (IoT) involves devices sharing data in a wired or wireless network. Yet, the IoT has also become the largest and most complex information network that humans have ever created. The IoT was once made up of one-to-one connections, recording simple remote events such as temperature changes or stock levels. Today, however, enterprises are using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to cut operating costs, roll out innovative customer services and generate new revenues in all industrial and social sectors; from monitoring vehicle, driver and load conditions to controlling smart cities, utilities and waste management, from remote healthcare and smart homes, to connected agriculture and manufacturing.

New services need flexible business models, and partner ecosystems are evolving. Today there is strong competition for fixed line and licenced cellular networks from low cost, low power-consumption, long range, proprietary networks. They can all deliver long-term services, and a rapid Return on Investment in sectors as diverse as domestic energy metering and remote monitoring of industrial machines. And as satellite connection costs fall and capabilities grow, next gen IoT services are now in reach.

Trusted Connectivity Alliance

Delivered by test solution provider COMPRION, the new service enables mobile and other network operators to test how their eSIM profiles interact with an extensive range of consumer eSIM devices, including smartphones, wearables, tablets and laptops. This helps to address individual interoperability and compatibility issues prior to deployment and is particularly beneficial for Tier 2 and 3 operators with more limited resource for comprehensive in-house testing.

Ian Pannell, Chief Engineer, GSMA, commented: “GSMA is very pleased to see the emergence of a service that promotes interoperability between eSIM hardware, operator profiles and servers. With the emergence of eSIM-only smartphones in some markets, this service is essential for consumer confidence.”
