DeafTawk

DeafTawk aims to empower the deaf community of Pakistan by bridging the communication gap between them and the rest of society through digital technology.

The main goal of this project is to provide the deaf community with access to quality sign language interpretation services through digital technology. This involves a video relay solution for one on one interpretation, group calling and human-less interpretation through Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

DeafTawk will be providing universal sign language interpretation (SLI) at all keynotes, and a selection of M4D seminars at MWC23 Barcelona.

Signs Media Kenya Limited was formed in 2011 as a social enterprise, which propagates social, economic, political and talent development of persons with disabilities as a way of eliminating stigma and discrimination. Signs Media Kenya Limited owns Signs TV – a bilingual TV station with all its programming in English/Swahili and sign language, which seeks to incorporate all persons living with disabilities to enable them to entertain, educate and inform the general public. Currently, Signs Media Kenya Limited has recently ventured into assistive innovations so as to fully accomplish its mandate of disability inclusion in all sectors of the economy in Kenya and eventually the world.

Description of the demo:

The Deaf have been largely excluded from socio- and economic opportunities because of a communication barrier that exists between them and the rest of the world. Signs Media Kenya Ltd. is addressing this barrier through their on-demand sign language interpretation app, assistALL. In this demo you’ll be able to have a conversation with a deaf person aided by a sign language interpreter via the assistALL app.

Solidarités international

SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL is an NGO that responds to crises by distributing emergency aid in person and, in parallel, by implementing long-term solutions that enable affected populations to regain sustainable access to water, sanitation, hygiene, diversified livelihoods and safe housing.

• The ultimate aims of SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL’s action are protection, dignity and autonomy.

    Description of the demo:

    Solidarités International will present their SOLIS Bot, a WhatsApp chatbot developed using GSMA funds, currently used on the field in Lebanon. The demo will show both how affected populations use, and converse with the Bot, using both texts and voice messages, and how SI staff is using the Bot’s data to improve their impact on the field.
