Speaker Bio

Quantum physicist Tommaso Calarco is Director of the Institute of Quantum Control of the Peter Grünberg Institute at the Forschungszentrum Jülich and Professor of Theoretical Physics at the University of Cologne as well as at the University of Bologna. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Ferrara and started his postdoctoral work in the group of P. Zoller at the University of Innsbruck. In 2004, Calarco was appointed Senior Researcher at the BEC Center in Trento, and in 2007 he was appointed Professor of Physics at the University of Ulm, where he became Director of the Institute for Complex Quantum Systems and the Center for Integrated Quantum Science and Technology. In 2016, he authored the Quantum Manifesto. This manifesto provided the impetus for the European Commission's Quantum Flagship Initiative.
