Speaker Bio

Motoo Nishihara is Corporate Executive Vice President, Chief Technology Officer, and Head of Global Innovation Business Unit.


He is responsible for the management of NEC’s worldwide research laboratories, located in the seven regions of US/Germany/Israel/India /Singapore/China/Japan, and responsible for business incubation for the future growth market, intellectual property rights management for the entire company, and Healthcare and Life Science businesses.


His mission is to develop NEC’s future core technologies for existing businesses as well as to develop NEC’s future core businesses and intellectual property license businesses using NEC’s advanced technologies.


He has been promoting the concept of “Ecosystem R&D,” focusing on joint research with partners, researchers, business leaders, and talented people from outside so as to launch startups and generate revenue more quickly by utilizing NEC‘s powerful technologies. He launches NECX, based in Silicon Valley, USA, and BIRD INITIATIVE, jointly established with partners from different industries to accelerate these open innovation efforts.


He started his career in business sector of network product/solutions development and has experienced research and development in network, security, Internet systems and AI related products/solutions. He was appointed as Senior Vice President in 2016, and Executive Vice President and CTO in 2019.


He received his master degree in Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and his Bachelor of Science in mathematical engineering and information physics from the University of Tokyo. He received the 18th Fuji Sankei Business Eye Award for Advanced Technology in 2014.
