Session Description
The global balance of power is shifting with the populations, economies and digital ambitions of the Global South shaping a new world order. Today, more than half of humanity lives in countries typically considered part of the Global South, giving the region outsized demographic weight. As growth rates accelerate across emerging economies in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East, their combined influence in trade, digital markets, and global labour pools is expanding rapidly.
In parallel, rising mobile and internet penetration, increasing start-up activity, and rapidly growing digital infrastructure are transforming how these nations engage with global commerce, innovation, and governance. Governments and regional blocs in the Global South are demanding stronger representation in global institutions, pushing for new norms around data governance, digital trade, climate justice, and tech regulation.
This session examines how demographic trends, economic growth, and digital transformation are fuelling a redefinition of global governance.
