Satellite Voice Call for Connected Vehicles

The demonstration will feature a live voice call conducted over satellite, showcasing how vehicles can maintain voice connectivity even when cellular networks are patchy or unavailable. This milestone proves that voice communication—critical benefit for driver safety and emergency access—can operate reliably beyond the reach of terrestrial networks.
The demo integrates Viasat’s highly reliable satellite network, Cubic³’s global Connectivity Management Platform (CMP) and hybrid eSIM, and Qualcomm technology to enable voice calling that switches smoothly between cellular and satellite networks. Together, the companies are demonstrating how always-on connectivity can be built into modern, software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs). The setup will also incorporate Amarisoft’s Radio Access Network (RAN) and voice codecs from both Qualcomm and Fraunhofer IIS.
By extending voice services beyond traditional cellular coverage, automakers can ensure that drivers remain connected for emergency assistance and critical safety needs—no matter where they are. This demonstration also sets the stage for future satellite-enabled vehicle services as data capabilities continue to expand.
