Sylvia Wairimu Njuguna Mulinge

Speaker Bio

Sylvia Mulinge is the Chief Executive Officer, MTN Uganda, having joined in October 2022 from Safaricom PLC in Kenya where she served as a Chief Consumer Business Officer. She is a seasoned executive with a commercial career spanning over 20 years in telecoms, financial services, and fast-moving consumer goods.

Sylvia chairs the boards of MTN Mobile Money Uganda and Maasai Mara Wildlife Conservancies Association in Kenya. She also serves as a board member for MTN Uganda, Ayo Uganda and President’s Award – Kenya, which is the leading youth achievement award in Kenya, equipping young people for life. She is also an advisory member of Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO) where she advises on strategic initiatives to empower urban slum communities with integrated programs in health and education.

She has been widely recognized for her leadership and impact with several awards including the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear in Kenya which is conferred by the President of Kenya in recognition of distinguished service to the Nation. She has been named among the 100 Most Influential African Women (2020), Kenya’s Top 25 Women in Digital and Top 40 Women Under 40 in Kenya. More recently she was recognized as Best CEO across all operations of the MTN Group(2024), Uganda’s leading and most admired Ugandan CEO (2024) and top 45 most influential women in digital transformation in Africa (2023).

Sylvia is an alumnus of the University of Nairobi with a BSc- Food Science & Technology degree. She is also a certified executive coach and mentor in both her personal and professional life.

She has a passion for transforming lives, leadership, women empowerment, and creating community impact. Sylvia is also a dedicated mother of two teens and an enthusiast for healthy living and fitness.
