Speaker Bio

Stephen Oh is a Melbourne-born innovator who leads XM2’s global operations. Passionate about both technology and storytelling, he transitioned from producing corporate films to pioneering aerial cinematography in Australia. In the early 2000s, Oh founded XM2 as a multimedia advertising agency. His hobby of flying remote-controlled helicopters soon evolved into a professional venture into camera-lift technology and drone cinematography.

Under his leadership, XM2 has evolved into a global leader in aerial and camera movement systems for film and television. Backed by a multidisciplinary engineering team, XM2 designs and manufactures proprietary aircraft, gimbals, camera systems, and stabilization technology in-house—delivering tailored solutions to complex creative and technical challenges. The company’s heavy-lift drones, stabilised remote heads, and mobile tracking platforms are widely used on high-end film franchises such as The Avengers, Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Wars, Mission Impossible, Jurassic World, John Wick and Fast & Furious. XM2’s team is regularly embedded on-set with major productions, integrating R&D and production workflows in real time—an approach that sets them apart in the industry.

Beyond entertainment, Oh expanded the company’s impact through the founding of XM2 Earth, with a focus on non-cinema applications for XM2’s unique technologies & expertise. In 2021, XM2 Earth debuted a proprietary heavy-lift tether drone technology to serve as temporary cell towers in the aftermath of major natural disasters. By remaining tethered to a ground unit and power sources at all times, XM2 Earth’s drones have nearly limitless flight time and data transfer capabilities. Leading global telecommunication companies have deployed this technology as the World's first “pop-up infrastructure!” Now entering its 4th generation, XM2 Earth tether drone technology has expanded beyond hardware to offer customers a fully integrated suite of software, payload and platform capabilities to maximize the impact of this game-changing technology.
