Speaker Bio
Jemima Kasongo is a young leader with a Master’s degree in Management and the Coordinator of the U-Report Lubumbashi community, which she has led since 2021. Under her leadership, the community has grown to over 500 active young volunteers and has inspired similar groups in Kipushi, Kambove, Likasi, and Sakania, increasing youth participation across the Haut-Katanga region.
In 2022, Jemima started a girls’ empowerment club to support self-expression and female leadership. She also joined UNICEF DRC as a Web Fact-Checker, helping to fight over 100 online false information and promoting digital safety and education for young people.
In 2023, she expanded U-Report by creating seven sub-communities in different neighborhoods of Lubumbashi, giving more young people the chance to participate in community projects.
In 2024, she led large environmental awareness campaigns that reached more than 20,000 schoolchildren and over 200,000 households, making U-Report Lubumbashi one of the most active communities in the network.
In March 2025, she participated online in the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona as a young UNICEF delegate, representing African youth and taking part in workshops, discussions, and events organized by GSMA.
In October 2025, she led a breast cancer awareness campaign both online and in the community, reaching over 5,000 people.
Through her dedication, leadership, and positive influence, Jemima is recognized as an advocate for positive change and an inspiring role model for young people in her community.
