Davide Messina/Mastercard - Job Title: Senior Vice President, Digital Payments, Europe


Davide Messina is Senior Vice President, Digital Payments, Europe, at Mastercard, a role he has held since 2024. He oversees a portfolio of digital solutions including Click to Pay, Tokenization, Authentication and Agentic Payments, and is responsible for scaling these capabilities across issuers and acceptance partners throughout Europe.


Mr. Messina has built a long and distinguished career at Mastercard since joining the company in 2003 as a Key Account Manager within the European division. Over the years, he has held several senior leadership roles, including heading the Regional Account Group for South-Central Europe, managing relationships with five pan European banks based in Italy, France, and Germany. He subsequently served as Head of Central Europe and HGEM Market Development, followed by Head of New Business and Acceptance Development at Mastercard Europe. In these roles, Mr. Messina led teams that secured innovative partnerships with non-traditional players across multiple sectors, expanded acceptance with retailers and parking operators, and signed transformative agreements in the B2B travel space.


He later served as General Manager of the Mastercard Enterprise partnership, before spending five years with Mastercard Payment Gateway Services as Regional Head for Asia Pacific, the Middle East & Africa, Latin America, and ultimately Europe.


From 2020, Davide Messina served as Senior Vice President, Product & Innovations, Merchant Solutions Europe, where he oversaw Tokenization, Click to Pay, and Gateway solutions, laying the groundwork for today’s digital payment innovation agenda.


An Italian national, Davide brings deep sales leadership and product expertise developed both within and prior to Mastercard. Before joining the company, he spent more than eight years at Sara Lee, the American consumer products corporation, and previously worked at Renault in Italy within the automotive sector.


Mr. Messina graduated with honors in 1992 with a degree in Economic Studies from the University of Rome “La Sapienza.”
