John Stankey has led AT&T as CEO and President since July 2020. He was elected Chairman of the Board in February 2025.
With more than $125 billion in 2025 revenues, AT&T is one of the world’s largest companies in technology and telecom. Between 2021 and 2025, AT&T invested more than $150 billion in its wireless and wireline networks, including capital investments and acquisitions of wireless spectrum. It is consistently one of the top annual investors of capital in the United States.
John’s leadership is driving AT&T’s transformation as it focuses on being the best advanced connectivity company. For 150 years, beginning with the first phone call by AT&T’s founding innovator, Alexander Graham Bell, AT&T has connected people to greater possibility. That’s still true today, powered by world-class fiber and 5G networks.
AT&T is a global leader in communications serving more than 100 million U.S. subscribers across wireless and broadband, including nearly 2.5 million business customers of all sizes.
John joined AT&T in 1985 and has 40 years of accomplished leadership spanning nearly every area of AT&T’s business. He has served in a variety of roles, including Chief Operating Officer, CEO of WarnerMedia; CEO of AT&T Entertainment Group; Chief Strategy Officer; Chief Technology Officer; CEO of AT&T Operations; and CEO of AT&T Business Solutions.
He currently serves on AT&T’s board of directors.
John holds a B.B.A. in Finance from Loyola Marymount University and an M.B.A. from UCLA.
