Fredrik Engströmer is the Head of Innovation at Region Stockholm. In his role as Head of Innovation in Region Stockholm, Fredrik is leading and coordinating regional innovation initiatives within the healthcare sector and related sectors in Region Stockholm. He works at the intersection of healthcare innovation and new technologies, driving a broad spectrum of innovations - with focus on 5G healthcare applications, artificial intelligence, medical drones, and digital solutions - into clinical and operational environments. In the intersection of healthcare and new technologies Fredrik focuses on how innovation can create genuine value for patients, professionals, and society. Fredrik is the founder and project owner of the EU funded 5G Mobile Healthcare Innovative solutions 5GMHI project.
Fredrik has a vast combined experience from working with 5G in the telecom sector and healthcare sector. He has more than seven years of experience in healthcare innovation and over 25 years in the international telecom industry, where he held senior roles in key account management, business development, sales, marketing. Fredrik has worked across Europe, Latin America, North America, and Asia, and has lived in Sweden, Austria, and Mexico. He is fluent in Swedish, English, and Spanish, with additional studies in Russian, French, and German.
Fredrik holds a Master of Science degree in Engineering Physics from Lund University, specializing in nuclear physics, with his master’s thesis conducted at the University of São Paulo in Brazil. He has completed academic studies in Spanish at the University of Guadalajara in Mexico and Russian at Uppsala University in Sweden. He has also attended executive leadership and strategy programs at Columbia University in New York and Thunderbird School of Global Management in Phoenix, Arizona.
In his current role, Fredrik drives the implementation of the Innovation Strategy and coordinates the regional innovation network in Regional Stockholm. Fredrik leads regional innovation projects and collaborates with healthcare providers, academia, and industry to support the scaling and practical use of innovations and new technologies within the healthcare system, and drives the 5G healthcare innovation activities in Region Stockholm.
