About Thomson Reuters Ventures

Thomson Reuters Ventures invests in the next frontier of enterprise technology. As long-term investors, we seek to accelerate the trajectory of forward-thinking founders and support breakthrough innovations. TR Ventures focuses primarily in AI tech innovation in three areas – tax, legal, and risk and fraud – as well as in media, including deep fakes and ad tech revenue.

  • The advantage of 4YFN is getting a global view of the startup market. You get to see pre-seed companies and the formation of the idea really early, and along with that you also get a mix of later-stage companies.

The vibe at MWC and 4YFN is great and the event gets better every year. The early tech we saw this year was very innovative. And it was very busy, very bustling, with lots of great founders.

The corporate investors are ready to invest, are excited to meet other investors and share leads. Today I met with AT&T Corporate Venture and Telefonica – telcos that invest in the same type of risk and fraud solutions that we do. Actually, there is more overlap than people would realise.

"4YFN is a great networking event and a win-win for a founder – they can meet customers, investors and distribution partners at the same time here.

At 4YFN 2024, I was on a panel with another VC (Connex Nexo). They told me about an early-stage startup called Payflow – based in Spain and focused on earned wage access in southern Europe and Latam. After meeting the founder, we did diligence really fast and wrote the cheque for over $3m four weeks later, taking all of the first-round investment. They're amazing, great founders and Payflow has gone on to triple their revenue."
