Speaker Bio
Born in Barcelona in 1978, Núria Montserrat Pulido is an ICREA Research Professor and leader of the Pluripotency for Organ Regeneration group at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia. She is internationally recognized for her pioneering work in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, which has significantly advanced knowledge in organ regeneration and holds strong potential for applications in personalized medicine.
Her research has been recognized twice by the prestigious European Research Council (ERC). As a result of her work on generating mini-organs to understand human tissue formation and genetic and systemic diseases, she has authored around one hundred scientific publications and has been invited to speak at more than 400 scientific and socio-economic conferences and forums. She is also widely known for her role as a science communicator and mentor to girls and women pursuing careers in research. In 2019, she was appointed Commissioner of Barcelona’s first “City and Science” Biennial and was reappointed for its second edition.
Alongside her scientific career, she has held leadership roles in research management, first as Deputy Director of the Centre for Regenerative Medicine in Barcelona and more recently as Deputy Director for Clinical Translation at IBEC.
Prior to her appointment as Minister for Research and Universities, she was one of fourteen leading figures selected to join the Advisory Council for Research and Innovation of Catalonia (CORICAT), the body that advises the Government on major strategic decisions in science and innovation policy. She previously served on the Horizon Advisory Group, which presented ten strategic measures to the Government in spring 2023 to strengthen research and innovation.
Throughout her career, she has received numerous awards. Notably, she was granted the National Research Award for Young Talent (2021) by the Government of Catalonia in recognition of her innovative contributions to bioengineering. She was also named an EMBO Young Investigator (2020) by the European Molecular Biology Organization, of which she is a member, and she is a Full Member of the Reial Acadèmia Europea de Doctors (Royal European Academy of Doctors).
