Dr Volker Wissing was born in Landau, Germany, in 1970. He has been Federal Minister for Digital and Transport since December 2021.
From September 2020 to December 2021 he was Secretary General of the Free Democratic Party (FDP) in Germany. From May 2016 to May 2021, Dr Volker Wissing was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament. Furthermore, he was Deputy Minister-President as well as Minister for Economy, Transport, Agriculture and Viticulture of the Federal State of Rhineland-Palatinate.
He has been Chairman of the Rhineland-Palatinate FDP state association since 2011 and a member of the FDP’s Executive Committee since 2013. From 2004 to 2013, Dr Volker Wissing was a Member of the German Bundestag and was elected Chairman of the Finance Committee from 2009 to 2011 as well as Deputy Chairman of the FDP Parliamentary Group from 2011 to 2013.
Dr Volker Wissing holds a doctorate in Administrative Law and worked as a judge and public prosecutor in Landau, Germany, from 1997 to 1999. He served as a speaker in the Office of the Rhineland-Palatinate Minister of Justice, Herbert Mertin, in 2000 and was appointed as a judge at the Regional Court of Landau in 2001. From 2013 to 2016, he worked as a lawyer.
