Speaker Story

Rob Shuter is the Group President and CEO of MTN, a position he has held since March 2017. He has extensive experience in the African and European telecoms sectors as well as in retail and investment banking. Prior to joining MTN, Rob served as the CEO of the Vodafone Europe Cluster responsible for operations in 9 key European markets.
 
Rob is a qualified Chartered Accountant with 17 years banking and financial services experience, having served as Managing Director responsible for Retail Banking at Nedbank and Head of Investment Banking at Standard Bank.
Rob currently serves as a Commissioner on the United Nations Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development, as well as the South African Presidential Commission on the Fourth Industrial Revolution where he chairs the Social and Economic impact workstream.
Rob is passionate about the role that the telecommunications industry through partnerships, can play in bridging the digital divide and advancing financial inclusion. He is a strong believer in the importance of corporate culture and presented an MBA elective course on Strategy, Execution and Culture at Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) business school. Rob is a previous recipient of the CRF South Africa manager of the year award.
