Vice-Minister for Policy Coordination - International Affairs




Katsuya Watanabe has been the Vice-Minister for Policy Coordination (International Affairs) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, Japan (MIC) since July 2018. Prior to his current position, he worked in several senior positions in MIC, including Deputy Director-General for Broadcasting Policy, Director-General of the Radio Department, and Director-General of Telecommunications Bureau. Through his career, he has accumulated rich and diverse experience in the telecommunication and broadcasting sectors. He is currently making efforts to strengthen international presence of Japan in the ICT field based on his highly appreciated professional career experience of more than 30 years in ICT policy. He graduated from Keio University with a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering degree in 1984.
