Knisper improves the quality of telephone calls for everyone with (age related) hearing loss. This is done using the amplifying technique of hearing aids, but without the need for an earpiece. Intelligibility is improved using compression, speech enhancement techniques and frequency-specific gaining algorithms. Knisper has been developed by Audus Technologies, a start-up from the Netherlands, dedicated to serving the 500M people worldwide--going up to an estimated 1B by 2050--that are suffering from disabling hearing loss. With less than 20 percent of those qualifying for a hearing aid, using one, unadressed hearing loss has far reaching functional, social and emotional impact.
