According to some recent research carried out by Edison Research and Nielsen, there are currently over 1,750,000 podcasts available on the Apple Store in January of 2021, up from roughly 550,000 in 2018. Roughly 55% of Americas listen to podcasts, a 35% increase in 3 years. It is unquestionable that the medium is not only here to stay, but it is becoming an increasingly important source of entertainment, news and distraction for people around the globe. Companies such as Spotify have invested heavily in the space, and with the share of screen and ear time ever limited, the question remains how business can continue to monetise podcasts, and reach the ears of those millions of users worldwide.
