Dr. Wai Chen is currently Chief Scientist of China Mobile Research Institute, where he leads research on Internet-of-Things (IoT) at China Mobile. The IoT research activities currently focus on machine intelligence, edge computing, C-V2X, and smart homes, among others.


 


Dr. Chen has over 30 years of experiences in research and development of advanced technologies for both commercial and government sectors, including 20-plus years in Bellcore / Telcordia (New Jersey, USA) where he was Chief Scientist and Director. While at Bellcore / Telcordia, he served as Principal Investigator of several government-sponsored research projects on advanced information networking technologies. Dr. Chen also led a vehicular communications research program in collaboration with a major automaker, on automotive networking technologies (V2X) for vehicle safety and traffic efficiency. Since he was invited to work in China in 2012 as Chief Scientist of China Mobile Research Institute, Dr. Chen has been spearheading the initiatives to transform Internet-of-Things (IoT) towards Ubiquitous Intelligence or Internet-of-Intelligent-Things (IoIT). He has led his research team to develop advanced technologies and applications including machine intelligence, edge computing, next generation Internet of vehicles, and smart senior-care, with several large-scale applications currently underway nationwide.
