Born in Sant Cugat del Vallès (Barcelona) in 1974.
Master’s of engineering degree (MENG) in Information Systems from the University of Surrey, United Kingdom (1992-1997).
The Minister’s professional career started in the IT department of Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt, where he worked as an analyst/programmer between 1997 and 2001. In 2001, he joined IBM-Barcelona as a senior consultant and head of IT projects and new technologies.
At institutional level, in September 2015, he was appointed councillor of the Sant Cugat City Council, a position he held until 2013 and where he was eventually appointed deputy mayor of Governance, Security, Mobility and Technology. During his time at the council, he was a member of the Board of Directors of LocalRet, a Catalan municipal consortium promoting Information and Knowledge Society, from 2007 until 2013.
Since May 2021, Jordi Puigneró is the current Vice President and Minister of Digital Policies and Territory. In June 2018, he was appointed Minister of Digital Policy and Public Administration. He has been responsible for the Government of Catalonia’s ICT policy, firstly, as Director General of Telecommunications and Information Society, and secondly, from February 2016 until May 2018, as Secretary for Telecommunications, Cybersecurity and Digital Society of the Government of Catalonia.
