Idham Nawawi was appointed as the CEO of Celcom Axiata Berhad on 1st September 2018. Idham’s aspiration is to turn Celcom, a 30+ year old telecommunications company into an agile, progressive and competitive digital organization by creating a new culture and operating model to behave more like a start up.
Idham has more than 26 years’ experience in the telecommunications and IT industries in the region. He brings with him a good deal of operational and board experience, having served multiple business operations and boards. Prior to his appointment at Celcom, Idham served as the Group Chief Corporate Officer in Axiata Group Berhad, with responsibility in regulatory and corporate affairs that spans across six operating companies in ASEAN and South Asia.
Prior to his role in Axiata, Idham served as the Chief Operating Officer of Packet One Networks in Malaysia, Head of Strategy and Corporate Affairs for Axis Communications in Indonesia, and in various senior management positions for Maxis in Malaysia. He began his career as an engineer with Carl Zeiss in Princeton, New Jersey, USA, before venturing into ICT with IBM.
A Chevening Scholar, Idham holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from University of Rochester, New York, USA, and received his Masters in Communications Management (MBA in Telecommunications) from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland).
