Speaker Bio

Giuseppe Tesoriere is senior economist and research fellow with 12 years of experience in more than 50 global cities in low and middle income countries.

He currently works at WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities as Senior Urban and Regional Economist. He leads and conducts economic research and analysis that help address key knowledge gaps and advance the objectives of WRI working globally across urban issues, including water resilience, municipal finance, economic geography, and inequality. Prior to joining WRI, he was senior urban economist at UN-HABITAT knowledge and innovation branch, and urban economy and finance branch, working in Africa and Middle East.

He also has several years’ experience conducting data collection and studies focussed on agglomeration economies, community participation and resilience working with World Bank and African Development Bank urban programmes and rural projects in East Africa.

Collaborates with International Organisations (Urban Economy Forum, GIZ, Asian Development Bank and Inter-American Development Bank), and international journals (International Social Science Journal) as urban expert and peer reviewer.

Author of more than forty research published in peer reviewed journals, conference proceedings, working papers and official United Nations reports and technical studies. 

He held a PhD in economics with a thesis on public goods in developing countries cities.
