Francisco Varela leads Meta’s Telco Ecosystem Partnerships teams.  To meet Meta’s mission to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together, the company must work across ecosystems to provide the best experience possible on mobile devices and lower the cost of connectivity.  The TEP group is focused on Meta’s  global relationships with mobile operators, OEMs and other key actors in the connectivity ecosystem.

Prior to joining Meta, Mr. Varela led YouTube's business development efforts with distribution partners, with a strong emphasis on consumer electronics manufacturers, mobile carriers, and game consoles providers.  Mr. Varela also served as Managing Director of Business Development for Comcast’s efforts on the West Coast, and EMEA Legal Director for Openwave Systems, a mobile software company, based in London.  Mr. Varela spent five years at Yahoo! Inc., where he worked on Yahoo!’s international alliances and acquisitions, including Yahoo!’s mobile efforts and sponsorship of the FIFA World Cup.

Mr. Varela earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Claremont McKenna College, and Juris Doctor degree from the University of California at Berkeley, where he was one of five students selected for a joint program with the Harvard Law School.
