Edwin Goedhart has been registered as sports medicine physician in 1996. After holding various positions in the field of sports medicine he is fulltime engaged in professional football as head medical staff in football for several teams since almost 20 years. Since 2012 he took over the role of head medical staff of the Netherlands Football Team. He was appointed Chief Medical Officer at the Royal Netherlands Football Association (KNVB) one year later, with the focus on the implementation of a scientific approach in football. The management of sports concussions, is one of the special areas of interest at het Football Medicine Centre of the KNVB in Zeist.
