Dr. Gemma Vall Llosera received the Diploma in Optics from the Politechnics University of Catalonia (UPC) in 1998 and the Dr. degree in Physics from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Sweden in 2008. In 2008 she joined the Electrical and Information Technology group at Lund University, Sweden where she worked with error fingerprinting of xDSL networks. In 2010 she joined Ericsson Research where she conducted research in optical x-haul networks. She has been program manager for the Ericsson Hardware photonics program where she focused on silicon photonic solutions for datacenters and radio applications. She has also been very active in radio-over-fibre and participated in several European projects, the most relevant was the FP7 COCONUT project where the team looked into low-cost coherent transceivers for radio access networks. She has had hold the role of technology advisor at Ericsson’s own incubator and she helped set the basis for the Quantum computing strategy at Ericsson Research. Right now, Gemma is leading a an innovation team looking into new Automation and AI technologies to help digitalise Ericsson. As a member of the Electrical and information technology group at Lund Tekniska Högskolan in Lund University, she lectures in silicon photonics, and physical properties of optical components for fibre networks. Gemma has been part of the Technical Program committee for optics and photonics conferences, a guest editor at the Optics and Communications journal and she is also a member of the PhotonicSweden board of directors. Previously she received a VINNMER fellowship and a Marie Curie grant for her PhD studies. She is the author of 15 patents and she has published around 40 peer-reviewed contributions.
