With 20 years of experience in the telecommunications technology field, and over 15 years of experience working in humanitarian emergencies, Brent Carbno is the Global Cluster Coordinator for the Emergency Telecommunications Clus-ter (ETC).
Based in Rome, Brent heads the Global ETC Team, responsible for leading efforts to effectively coordinate the provision of shared communications and technology services in emergency operations.
As Global Cluster Coordinator, Brent is driving the development of a revised ETC strategy beyond 2020, which seeks to ensure that all those responding to humanitarian emergencies - including affected communities - have access to vital communications and connectivity services, transforming aid delivery.
Prior to taking up this role in 2020, Brent spent the previous couple of years at a technology focused NGO where he was responsible for the field programs being delivered by the organization globally. Before that, Brent spent more than 17 years in technology in the private sector, starting as an engineer and eventually leading a global humanitarian disaster response program for the company for 8 years. Since his first involvement in humanitarian response in 2005, Brent has served in numerous humanitarian operations including Pakistan, Central African Republic, Sudan, Haiti, South Sudan, Philippines, Nepal and other countries.
Brent holds both a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in science, and has found the humanitarian space as an ex-tremely fulfilling opportunity to utilize his skills and experience.
