Session Description
Please note that sessions at the GSMA Ministerial Programme are accessible to those delegates invited to attend the Programme only.
To meet the science-based targets for decarbonisation set by mobile operators in the coming decades, the industry needs access to much greater amount of renewable energy through national grids. Currently, around 18% of the electricity used globally by mobile network operators comes from renewable sources and for targets to be met needs to reach at least 50% by 2030. Supporting regulatory and policy environment enabling access to stable renewable electricity marketplaces is needed to help the mobile industry’s transition to net zero. This session will explore how mobile operators, together with other businesses with similar science-based targets towards 2030, can act as frontrunners to de-risk and attract investment into renewables, by committing to long-term large-scale offtake agreements.
