The Need for Speed & Spectrum

Wed, 2 Mar: 16:00 - 17:00 CET

MWC Stage A, Hall 5

Session Description

Spectrum is the lifeblood of our industry but remains a finite resource. ,  Governments  are under pressure to respond not only to an enormous demand for spectrum, but also to a wide variety of potential uses such as critical infrastructure applications, mobile phones, TV broadcasting, military communications, weather forecasting and global positioning systems. To meet growing demand, there is a need for a clear understanding of what the current and future requirements for spectrum are for 5G and beyond with a strong framework to manage new uses and trade-offs with other industries. The majority of commercial 5G networks are relying on spectrum in the 3.5 GHz range and any decision made today will determine the pace of change as countries and industries pursue their digital ambitions. This session will examine future requirements of spectrum and explore forward-looking strategies that deliver real innovation for the 5G world.
