The digital ecosystem is set to onboard nearly a billion mobile internet subscribers between 2021 and 2025, reaching a penetration rate of 60% across the globe, and the next digital wave is anticipated with the unfolding of the metaverse. While the metaverse entices with the promise of more immersive and life-enhancing services, principles of safety and trust must be embedded in its design. Mobile operators are uniquely positioned to enable safer and simpler interactions, while privacy is protected as a matter of policy. This session will explore consumer safety issues arising from digital services and the potential role of the mobile sector in securing the digital space and establishing trust.
