Session Description

Don’t miss this exclusive event for Industry leaders at MWC 2023

The future cloud will expand to a highly-distributed fabric spanning 5G to space, powered by modern network infrastructure, and enabling a new application paradigm that puts ubiquitous computing power even closer to the problems that customers need to solve.

Join Microsoft executives Jason Zander, EVP of Strategic Missions and Technologies, Yousef Khalidi, CVP Azure for Operators, Martin Lund, CVP of Azure for Operators, and Victor Bahl, Technical Fellow and CTO, Azure for Operators, to hear about Microsoft’s vision for the future of connectivity, modern networks, and the cloud.

This session will also explore how operators and enterprises can take advantage of the new application paradigm today and gain insight into Microsoft’s new wave of products and services. In addition, attendees will learn best practices from Microsoft partners on how they are working with Microsoft Azure for Operators to help their customers through digital transformation journeys, drive value and growth, and prepare for the future.

Azure Powered Software RAN

Speaker:

Victor Bahl, Technical Fellow & CTO of Azure for Operators, Microsoft

Description:

The Radio Access Network (RAN) is one of the most sophisticated and important components of the telecommunications network. When implemented as an integral part of the edge and cloud infrastructure, it becomes a powerful, scalable, and secure programmable platform ready to ingest innovations unlike ever before. We are building experimental 5G networks in Microsoft’s Redmond, USA, and Cambridge, U.K. campuses. These networks are built with an open architecture and cloud-native components. Our networks use open 5G radios, and Open RAN software on Azure-managed telco-grade edge servers with FEC hardware accelerators. The software layer includes Microsoft Mariner OS, third-party RAN network functions, Azure Network Function Manager, Kubernetes for RAN, and our RAN automation technology. Orchestration and management are automated through Azure portal. Advanced features include dynamic energy management for sustainability, interference detection and mitigation, fault tolerance, and live migration.

Seating capacity for this session is limited. Attendees who have pre-registered and been accepted by Microsoft will receive a confirmation email and be added to the attendance list.
