Convergence of 5G networking, platforms, and applications at the enterprise edge is critical to achieve these goals while offering the flexibility to serve the widest range of use cases in Robotics, AI, and Industrial IoT. This session will provide insights about how Azure private MEC solution is being adopted by an ecosystem of Operators, System Integrators, and innovative ISV partners to offer industry solutions at scale. Enterprises benefit from validated use cases running on the edge integrated with high performance, reliable private 5G connectivity, all managed from the cloud, making these solutions very simple to consume.
12:15 – 12:30
Azure Powered Software RAN
Victor Bahl, Technical Fellow & CTO of Azure for Operators, Microsoft
The Radio Access Network (RAN) is one of the most sophisticated and important components of the telecommunications network. When implemented as an integral part of the edge and cloud infrastructure, it becomes a powerful, scalable, and secure programmable platform ready to ingest innovations unlike ever before. We are building experimental 5G networks in Microsoft’s Redmond, USA, and Cambridge, U.K. campuses. These networks are built with an open architecture and cloud-native components. Our networks use open 5G radios, and Open RAN software on Azure-managed telco-grade edge servers with FEC hardware accelerators. The software layer includes Microsoft Mariner OS, third-party RAN network functions, Azure Network Function Manager, Kubernetes for RAN, and our RAN automation technology. Orchestration and management are automated through Azure portal. Advanced features include dynamic energy management for sustainability, interference detection and mitigation, fault tolerance, and live migration.
Seating capacity for this session is limited. Attendees who have pre-registered and been accepted by Microsoft will receive a confirmation email and be added to the attendance list.
