Session Description

The Catalan Data Protection Authority organizes a debate on facial recognition systems and on the risks for data protection that this technology entails.
Although facial recognition is not a new technology, in recent years, it has greatly improved its capabilities and, especially, its deployment all over the world. In combination with new technologies, such as IoT, people’s rights may become highly endangered. Could a facial recognition software in an augmented reality glasses allow us to indiscriminately identify people in public space? A panel of experts in the matter will help us dive into the current state of the technology, tell us what can we expect from it in the foreseeable future, and, most importantly, help us understand its impact in people’s rights.
