MWC19 will put C-V2X into the limelight as a pre 5G technology ready for deployment across the automotive vertical for vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to infrastructure applications like traffic light signal information services at junctions.
With car OEMs like Ford and BMW already having committed to C-V2X roll-outs and the support of more than 100 members backing the 5G Automotive Association (5GAA), the future of cellular Vehicle-to-Everything seems secured, driven by powerful ecosystem dynamics.
Semiconductor vendors, automotive Tier1 suppliers, network infrastructure providers, carriers, vehicle OEMs, software developers, and module vendors are working closely together to bring a wide range of informational and mission-critical safety and driverless use cases to market as demonstrated by the C-V2X deployment in Wuxi, China based on Huawei technology. For the first time in history, the automotive and telco industries are joining forces to develop next generation IoT connectivity technologies for the vehicle of the future.
But C-V2X is just the first step. During MWC, Telefonica, Seat, and a range of partners including Ficosa and Qualcomm, will demo real-life 5G assisted driving use cases, pedestrian and cyclist detection, and 4k content streaming as part of the 5G Barcelona initiative.
